Tiger Woods has arrived at the Home of Golf.
Woods went to the Old Course Saturday night to get reacquainted with the St. Andrew’s gem where he won two claret jugs. While he didn’t hit a full shot, Woods ventured out around 7 p.m. local time, hitting some wedges, hitting shots with Justin Thomas and playing a few holes together.
The Old Course was open to the public on Saturday, so there was a decent gallery of fans – and some dogs – walking down the first fairway with Woods and Thomas, with only a few marshals between the players and the crowd.
According to Thomas’ Instagram, both he and Woods were on the course after 10:30 p.m.
According to Golfweek, Woods’ caddie Joe LaCava and Thomas’ caddie Boness McKay have been on the course for a few hours to observe the layout ahead of next week’s 150th Open Championship.
It’s unclear how much Woods will practice Sunday, but he plans to play alongside Rory McIlroy, Georgia Hall and Lee Trevino in Monday’s championship celebration, a four-hole team event (Nos. 1, 2, 17 and 18). They will tee off at 5:05 p.m. local time.
Woods teed off at the JP McManus Pro-Am earlier this week and then played a casual match against Rory McIlroy at Ballybunion on Thursday. He hasn’t played since retiring after 54 holes at the U.S. PGA Championship.
He skipped the U.S. Open and Memorial to prepare for St. Andrews.
