Veteran guitarist Carlos Santana has postponed the next six shows of his “Magical Supernatural 2022” tour with Earth, Wind & Fire after he collapsed at a concert in Michigan earlier this week and was rushed to the hospital.
His manager, Michael Vrionis of Universal Tone Management, said Friday night that the postponement was “out of extreme caution for the artist’s health. The announcement added that all planned shows in Paso Robles, California, beginning July 23 and running through the end of 2022, are still confirmed and will go ahead as planned. A Santana representative said the accident earlier in the week was caused by severe heat stroke and dehydration.
“I regret to inform you that the Santana Band has postponed its performance tonight at the Ruoff Music Center in Noblesville, Indiana. And, we are postponing our July 9 show at Riverbend Music Center in Cincinnati, Ohio; July 10 at the American Family Insurance Amphitheater – Summerfest Grounds in Milwaukee, Wisconsin; July 12 at the Walmart Arkansas in Rogers, Arkansas Music Pavilion in Rogers, Arkansas on July 12; Dos Equis Pavilion in Dallas, Texas on July 15; and Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion in Woodland, Texas on July 16,” said Michael Vrionis, president of Universal Tone Management. Vrionis said. “Doctors are advising Mr. Santana to rest to regain full strength.”
Last December, Santana, who turned 75 this month, underwent what his management called “unscheduled” heart surgery, causing that month’s residency in Las Vegas to be postponed. However, he resumed his residency the following month and embarked on another North American tour in late March that continues to this day. the Earth, Wind & Fire tour is scheduled to run through the end of August. Just two weeks later, the musician will resume his permanent residency at the House of Blues in Las Vegas at the end of September, and then for two more weeks in November.
“Carlos is doing well and is eager to get back on stage as soon as possible. He just needs to rest,” Vrionis continued. “Santana deeply regrets the postponement of his upcoming show; however, his health is our primary concern. He looks forward to seeing all of his fans soon.”
Live Nation will announce rescheduled show dates. All previously purchased tickets will be honored for the new dates.
